Hello everyone,
Because of your generosity, Haitian Creole books have successfully arrived from Haiti. In early 2025, you donated to help us purchase these books directly from a Haitian bookstore, Kopivit L’Action Social. Ongoing transportation challenges in Haiti delayed delivery for nearly a year. With no flights available from Port-au-Prince, the books were transported overland to Cap-Haïtien in December 2025, and then safely carried to NY, United States in February 2026.
We purchased 55 books for $326.37 and paid $55 for transport assistance, bringing the total project cost to $381.37. Thanks to your generosity, we raised $384 in January 2025, fully covering the cost of this effort.
Below are the books we have purchased:
- 187 resèt fasil (11 copies)
- Istwa yon chat baka (11 copies)
- Tonton Maten (11 copies)
- Mwen konnen Ayiti, mwen renmen li (11 copies)
- Van libète (11 copies)
Why Haitian Creole Books Matter
Providing Haitian Creole books to learners of the language is crucial for preserving and promoting the language and culture. These books also enhance literacy and empower Haitians to connect with their heritage. By supporting local writers and bookstores, we strengthen the cultural fabric and foster a love for learning in their native language.
Kopivit L'action Sociale, RISO Haïti
We are pleased to inform you that the first 55 books were purchased from Kopivit L’Action Sociale, RISO Haïti, a publisher and bookstore based in Haiti. Founded by Edouard A. Tardieu, the business is now owned by Gérard-Marie Tardieu, a Haitian Creole teacher, writer, and founding member of the Haitian Creole Academy.
Where will the funds go?
Every dollar raised will go directly toward purchasing books by Haitian Creole authors from bookstores in Haiti, covering transportation to the United States, and shipping these books to our Haitian Creole learners.
Why Haitian Creole books?
Haitian Creole books are essential for language learning and cultural preservation. By purchasing most of these books in Haiti, we also support local authors, bookstores, and the Haitian literary community, strengthening the cultural and educational ecosystem. Supporting this initiative ensures access to these valuable resources while fostering a deeper connection to Haitian heritage.
How can I track my donation?
Donors will receive updates on how their contributions are used, including details about the books purchased, and receipts for all book purchases will also be shared. Additionally, each student will send a personal thank-you message.
