Join our online reading group to connect with others learning Haitian Creole and passionate about literature. Together, we explore a range of books, articles, and newspapers, both historical and contemporary. Meetings are held online three times a month on the second, third, and fourth Saturdays, each lasting up to two hours and focused on discussion, learning, and related activities. Pupose

The reading group welcomes all individuals interested in improving their Haitian Creole reading and speaking skills, engaging with literature, meeting guest authors, and joining a community that values the language.

Program Structure

The group will read one book at a time, proceeding to the next upon completion. Each session will include reading, reflection, and discussion conducted in Haitian Creole. Information regarding book purchases will be provided as necessary. Articles will be accessible online as PDF files.

Our mission is to foster a vibrant reading culture in Haitian Creole. Through monthly gatherings, EvoKreyòl brings people together to honor the language, promote Haitian Creole literature, support writers, and inspire readers in Haiti and the diaspora to value Haitian Creole as a language of knowledge, imagination, memory, and possibility.

Haitian Films

We’re adding something special to our Haitian Creole Reading Group. Every two months, we’ll watch a Haitian film together during our Saturday session, then discuss the story, language, culture, and unforgettable moments in Haitian Creole.

You’ll build listening confidence, practice real conversation, discover Haitian culture through film, and connect with a community that loves the language.

Spanning from the arrival of Christopher Columbus to the era of Jean-Claude Duvalier, this film documents the Haitian people’s enduring struggle for freedom. It features historical figures such as Rodolphe Moise, Ulrick Jolly, and Justin Castera, who advocated for national unity. The film was honored with a special award at the inaugural festival of new Latin American cinema.
